About the webmaster
The creative director of Railcolor.net is Simon Wijnakker, who initially started the Railcolor.net project back in 2002. He lives in the Netherlands. The design of the very first Siemens Taurus triggered him to start a website about these modern electic locomotives; colourful graphics were created to document all different liveries of these machines. Since then the number of machines grew rapidly, and so did the website and the time required to keep up with all the new developments. And then there is that moment, every webmaster will experience it, one has to ask oneself: does this project grow over my head? What to do? Quit? It was decided to seek some help…

| Help was found in Krefeld, Germany, where people from the lok-datenbank collaborative decided to help the Railcolor.net project surviving this crisis. Since a couple of years they built an uniform database for systematically documenting statistics, images, and additional information on railway vehicles, all around the world. Between September 2007 and February 2008 the old HTML-based railcolor.net website migrated with the Lok-datenbank database-system. Goal is to reduce the work load of the webmaster, by making all data available to more people that want to assist, which is then automatically presented in a uniform layout that finally will be understandable for everybody interested in modern locomotives in Europe.
