update 2013|04|01
[DE] History: Siemens ES 64 F vs DJ1 [update]
Roughly ten years ago, Siemens already built three double unit electrics for the Chinese railways. The six units were the last complete locomotives constructed at the former SGP workshops in Graz (Austria). The complete series, designated DJ1, incorporates twenty double locomotives. The remaining 17 units were officially built in China, but of course with support of the engineers of Siemens.
The images show locomotive DJ1-0001 next to a locomotive of the 152 series. Regarding the electrical concept, both locomotives have much in common. Mechanical however they are two different worlds. The 152 even looks small next to the Chinese giant. - DGB
Update on current status of DJ1s: The locomotives were originally used on the DaQin line, but now they serve as helper engines on the line from Baoji to Chengdu, to help trains up the grade just South of Baoji, and they are kept in a spotless condition. - JvV

[DE] Railion1 logo faces extinction

In the next months, we are going to monitor the main revisions of the 152 series very closely. Overhaul on 152 065 has been completed. The large variety of logos once applied at the machines with service numbers above no.070 will soon come to an end. Most exotic are 152 089 and 098. At this moment, they are the only modern locomotives left, that still have the rarely applied Railion1 logos. - WT

[NL] DB 152 in Eindhoven!
This afternoon, the Netherlands got an unexpected visitor. By accident DB Schenker 152 033-7 entered our country with car train 47790 Dillingen–Sloehaven. The locomotive was taken out of the train in Eindhoven, and possibly it is still parked there. If anyone sees this machine in Ehv, please contact us!

[DE] maybe better as ever: DB Schenker 152 020

Nice images of a freshly overhauled 152 020-4. From the introduction of this series, the livery design of these Siemens locomotives has been a plaything of an ever changing company structure and indecisive marketing strategists. It seems to be quiet now. The latest revision round on these machines gives them a fresh look again. And maybe, this (simple) design is best up till now. - RK

[DE] DB 152 005 -Claas- less attractive after main overhaul
DB's 152 005-5, the one with the Claas promotional livery, does not look that nice anymore since it got its second main overhaul in September 2011. Several parts of its body (such as grips, head lights, doors) needed a retouch, so the green livery had to be partially removed. - EK

[DE] DB 152: second revision round

update 2011|10|01
[DE] DB 152: second revision round
The second main revision round for the DB 152 series has started. The images show 152 003 and 009 after their second visit to Dessau. They have new grips and steps. Small DB logos up front and on the side replace whatever logo was there before (DB Cargo for 152 003 and Railion2 for the 009). Generally, the locomotives are not repainted, but the lacquer is treated with ceramol.
This means that a lot of units with strange, mixed up logo combinations, like 152 089 will loose these in the near future. At least when nothing changes in the mean time. - CK/AS/TW

[DE] DB 152 series: second round of main overhauls started
As from today, the picture uploads of all DB 152 series locomotives are enabled again, because the second round of main overhauls on these locomotives has started! This means that many of them will have their livery changed again. DB Cargo and Railion2 logos will disappear...
152 009 was one of the first to get a general inspection in the work shops of Dessau, Germany, and returned looking shiny, but not repainted. Its Railion2-logos were removed, and replaced by small DB logos again. Note that the white bars up front are long again, no extra space around the DB logo, which is the general standard for 185s and newer 152s that had an overhaul lately.
Around two third of the 152s got additional steps and grips up front during their first main overhaul. 61 units still need them, and will get them in the second round: 152 001-026, 028-031, 033-049, 051, 052, 054-059, 061, 064, 065, 067, 068 and 190 (corrections are welcome).
Also, new images of fresh 152s are welcome again!

[DE] the DB about its new corporate identity
In the current issue of Railways (01.2008), a magazine published online by the DB/Railion, an article can be found in which the DB makes clear how its new names, logos and identity will be applied on its rolling stock. For locomotives, not much will change; what was expected becomes reality, all machines will get only a DB logo, because this subscribes the neutral character of DB Schenker and DB Intermodal (Both DB subsidiaries for freight operation) in respect to its customers that operate in the (inter)national logistics market too. - Railways / Railion.com

update 2003|08|16
[DE] 152 152 is the first of its serie with Railion2 logos
After the 182 009 and the 189 010, there is now the first 152 with new Railion2-logos: the 152 152.
Note: 152 083, 085, 087, 089, 090, 091, 092, 093, 094, 096, 098 and 100 were delivered with Railion-logos, but these are old-style logos (we call them Railion1 logos). Also the 152 084, 086 and 088 have oldstyle Railion-logos, but only at their sides. The old logos have the blue square on the left, the new ones on the right.

DB 152: liveries by delivery |
|
red-1 / small DB logos all around
During their trial phase, all four prototypes were decoreated with small DB logos all around.
applied on: 152 001-004
period: 04.1997 - 09.1997
red-1 / DB Cargo logos
During the introduction of the 152 series, 'DB Cargo' was the name of DB's freight division
applied on: 152 001-031, 033-070 and 190
period: since 09.1997
red-1 / only DB logos up front
While waiting for a new name to be introduced, no DB Cargo logos anymore
applied on: 152 071/072/074/076/078/080/082
period: 08.1999 - 01.2006
red-2 / Railion1 logos (small lines around headlights)
08.1999: the new Railion name was introduced on 152 073, including a new base livery
applied on: 152 073
period: 08.1999 - 10.2001
red-2 / no logos (small lines around headlights)
The first version of this Railion logo however did not last very long, logo-less 152 073
applied on: 152 073
period: 11.2001 - 02.2005
red-1 / DB + Railion1 logos
At the factories, the switch from DB to Railion caused some confusion, units with mixed logos!
applied on: 152 084/086/088
period: 02.2000 - 04.2006
red-2 / Railion1 logos
At the end of 1999, the final, standard Railion-1 livery was applied
applied on: 152 083/085/087-092/094/096/098/100
period: 11.1999 - 09.2007
red-2 / no logos
But almost at the same time, units were delivered missing out on the Railion1 logos again..
applied on: 152 075/077/079/081/093/095/097/099/101-129/131/134/136/139
period: since 09.1999
red-1 / small DB logos
The previous livery looked somewhat naked.. so small DB logos were applied again
applied on: 152 130/132/133/135/137/138/140-170
period: since 09.2000

DB 152: changes after the first main overhaul |
|
|
In January 2004, 152 005 was the first unit which left the workshops of Dessau after a general overhaul, generally needed after 8 years of service.
At that moment, Railion was the name for the freight division of the DB again, was introduced for the second time in September 2003, on unit 152 152. However, by the first 40 units to get a main overhaul, logos were not replaced, the kept their DB Cargo markings. In February 2005, first units were released from Dessau with Railion2 logos. These differ drom the Railion1 logos as the blue square is on the right, no longer on the left.
Since June 2005, all overhauled units got additional steps and grips up front, similar to those applied on the DB 189 series. 152 050, 053, 060, 062, 063, 066 and 069-170 got these extra features in Dessau during their overhaul. The other machines will possibly get them later. Note that also two out of three rebuilt 152s have these features: 152 040II and 075II since their delivery.
At the end of 2005 however, the Railion name was changed into Railion DB Logistics, including new logos. December 2005 onwards, machines got those logos.
In 2007 the Railion DB logistics was changed into DB Schenker. As this name is not appreciated by several DB customers, this will not be applied on locomotives. In stead, they get small DB logos only. Then we are back to where we started....
All this name changing, combined the livery variation that was already there, resulted in a new list of looks:
red-1 / Railion2 logos
When the Railion name was introduced for the second time, Railion2 logos were applied
period: since 09.2003
red-1 / Railion1 (front) + Railion2 (side) logos
152 084, that already had Railion1 logos up front, did not get not new ones up there
period: since 09.2005
all red / Railion2 logos
152 089 and 098 have a very rare livery, they are all red with Railion2 logos. 152 089 has no blue square up front.
period: since 10.2005
red-1 / Railion DB Logistics logos
The normal Railion DB Logistics version for the 152 series.
period: since 12.2005
red-1 / small DB logos
Units that got their first main overhaul in 2008, and did not have DB logos yet, got them. Back to basics also.
period: since xx.2008
red-1 / small DB logos, extra space between white stripes upfront
It's only a detail, but from 2009 on, most 185s, 145s, 152s that get an overhaul, also get a slightly different front design. The white warning stripes up front are smaller, leaving more red space for the DB logo
period: since xx.2009

DB 152: promotional liveries |
|
Marklin/DB-museum
152 001 had this livery for 14 months (09.1999 - 11.2000). It was sponsored by the German railroad model manufacturer Marklin commemorating the 100th aniversary of the DB Museum in Nurnberg.
Porsche
From 02.2001 until 01.2005, DB unit 152 041 is promoted German sports car manufacturer Porsche. The 041 was repainted in silver and decorated with a dark gray Porsche 911 silhouette. This design was re-used for locomotive 182 004, that became silver in January 2006.
Siemens
Three units got an all-over livery for the Siemens company. Three units with Railion-logos (!) were selected for this make-over: 152 073, 084 and 086. The liveries were put on in October 2001. 152 073 lost the blue adhesives in December 2002 again, the other two followed one month later.
Claas
On 31.08.2007, 152 005 had a roll-out in a special green livery for the company Claas, manufacturer of all sorts of farming and harvesting equipment.
DB Intermodal / TFG Transfracht
In August 2008, five 152 units got a blue livery promoting their own DB Intermodel services. 152 134, 135, 136, 137 and 138 got this livery.
