Traxx 1 platform
Here an overview will be published of all Traxx 1 platform electrics, built by ADtranz/Bombardier. From 1999, the completion of the 185 001 for Railion and December 2005, until the delivery of the 185 557 to Mitsui MRCE in January 2006, 374 such machines were built. Bombardier also produced an extra replacement body/frame for a Traxx1 locomotive, as Railion 185 055 was replaced by a new machine after an accident in 2005. A Traxx 1 locomotive is built for AC currency only, but can run under both 15kV and 25kV voltage systems.

standard configurations
Traxx 1 locomotives can be homologated for Germany, Luxembourg, France, Switzerland, Austria and Hungary, but certain basic combinations can be distinguished:

the DACH configuration
Of course, the customer always decides how their products will be configured, but with the first geneation Traxx locomotives Bombardier succeeded for the first time to optimalise locomotives for services in a certain combination of countries (next to the basis configuration for Germany and Austria). For SBB Cargo for the first times, Traxx locomotives were equipped and homologated for both Switzerland and Germany, which finally resulted in the DACH-configuration, that is applied on machines exploited by DB Schenker, BLS Cargo, Angel Trains Cargo, MRCE Dispolok and of cource SBB Cargo.

Although their service domain only include countries with 15kV AC voltage systems, these machines do need 4 pantographs; for running in Switzerland extra pantographs are needed with small 1450 mm wide contacts, which are prescribed for running in the numerous Swiss tunnels.

the DF(L) configuration
DB Schenker closed an agreement with the French railways SNCF back in 2001 on a mutual border-crossing services. They would not compete, but cooperate on this (which is not the case anymore...). A batch of 20 machines from the DB 185 series order were therefore equipped with all neccessary installations to run in France and optionally in Luxembourg. MRCE Dispolok and CFL Cargo later on profit from the work that was done for DB Schenker already.
