|
1st order |
In 2006 and 2007, lease companies really started to invest in multi systems electrics for international freight services in Europe. Like Angel Trains Cargo, CBRail decided to invest in Bombardier products: press release 08.02.2006. This order included the new Traxx 2E MS sub type, capable of running under all 4 common catenary systems in Europe. At the end of 2007 another 10 multi system electrics were ordered. Both orders include two different country specific configurations. The D/A/NL/BE homologated machines will operate on the corridors from the harbours of Rotterdam and Antwerp towards Germany. The D/A/CH/I homologated machines will cross the Alps on the German-Italian freight corridor.
These E 186s, as most CBRail machines, are easy to recognize by their light grey basic colour. In September, the very first CBRail MS locomotive left the Bombardier Kassel works in Germany.
The first 10 D/A/CH/I homologated locomotives were originally designated E 186 151-160, but on demand of Italian rail way authority Cesifer, they were re-assigned as E 186 901-910, for easier identification.

[EU] say hello to Macquarie European Rail

Slowly, the name CBRail will disappear from this website. Lloyds Banking Group (owner of Lloyds TSB Rail Capital and its subsidiary CBRail) decided to sell the whole Europe oriented leasing activities for rolling stock to Australian based Macquarie Group. This company was already active on the market for leasing rolling stock, with its Macquarie Rail division.
This firm will continue CBRail's activities under a new brand: Macquarie European Rail.

[DE] The Hosena train crash aftermath
lr-online.de brings a new article on the Hosena train crash (July 2012). The freight train hauled by 186 140 destroyed the Hosena signal box, killing one person.
It will take years to recover from this accident. A new signal box will be erected in 2014, which is a real challenge as building such a system takes five years normally (the article states). The capacity of the station is still fifty percent and the financial damage is huge, in the range of tenths of millions. Also, E 186 140, which is not a real surprise, will be scrapped. - FG

Bombardier 186 240 is becoming a real globe trotter, well in Europe then. In the last week of May 2011, it moved from the Netherlands to Slovakia (25-26.05.2011). There it started homologation trials under the license of Express Rail. A major break trough for Slovakia, as it is the first [edit] Variable Voltage Variable Frequency (VVVF) electric to run on the conventional network. True, Siemens ES64U2's have been around, but only on new track sections with ETCS. - JS

[PL] Lotos hires more Railpool Traxx MSs
Again, LOTOS from Poland will extend its fleet with new Traxx locomotives. They will hire five additional MS units from Railpool. As they are operating nine units at this moment (186 136, 137, 139, 141, 143, 145, 146, 147 and 271) their fleet will grow to 14 units.
LOTOS also has ten Traxx DE diesels on order, so they are expanding rapidly. - LOTOS

update 2010|03|16
[PL] Lotos Kolej receives six new Traxx units
It's a bit a puzzle, but lets see what we got. Lotos Kolej, operator from Poland, recently closed a deal with Railpool for five Traxx MS units, with an option for three more.
Now there is this item, about Lotos recieving six Traxx units today. It tells us Lotos wants eight new units right away (or at least for the next nine months). The image that goes with the article shows us three light grey Traxx MS units with Lotos logos. They are also not repainted in the full Railpool livery, they only have the light blue bar. Yesterday these were already taped in Poland. It must be the DE-AT-PL configurated 186 136, 137 and 139, stored at Kassel since 2008 and originally built for CBRail, hence the light grey livery.
The other three newcomers are 186 141, 143 and 145, in service of Przewozy Regionalne (PR) until this week. PR was more fond of the EuroSprinter, so the Traxx units had to go and ES 64 F4-451 to 456 were picked up.
So now we have seven Traxx units at Lotos, 6 newcomers and 186 147, already at Lotos since 2009. But that's not it; the rynek-kolejowy.pl article says there is more to come. Lotos plans to have 20-25 Traxx units in service in 2011. Railpool 186 146 has already been spotted with Lotos logos around Kassel, so there we have number eight...
We will keep you informed.

[EU] CBRails (un)wanted
Today two Traxx units completed a test run; Railpool E 186 141-8 and CBRail 185 637. Together they illustrate the unpredictability of the current market for leasing and hiring locomotives. CBRail is one of the key players in this market at this moment, but its fleet strategy is very hard to follow. Bombardier is selling units that were originally built for CBRail to other customers now, like 186 141, 143, 147 and 181. But at the same time, other units are still accepted. 185 637 is the third unit of a batch of five AC2 electrics (635-639) the will delivered to CBRail next year. - TW

[PL] Lotos Koley hires Traxx unit 186 147
Since yesterday, Lotos Koley from Poland is using a Traxx MS electric for its services. On Friday 13.11.2009 the operator recieved such a unit from leasing company Railpool. The locomotive concerned is a newbee in the Railpool fleet; E 186 147. This unit was originally built for leasing company CBRail but they decided to cancel the delivery. During the past weeks the 147 was therefore repainted from light grey to Railpool silver and its country specific package was changed from DE-AT-NL-BE to DE-AT-PL, now making it possible to use it in Poland. The HGK will also return two machines to leasing company MRCE Dispolok. 185 544 and 573 will be returned tomorrow, after their HGK logos have been removed.
E186 148 and 149 have arrived in the Netherlands and were handed over to ITL, which already is using them right now. Logos and numbers still need to be applied.
Euro Cargo Rail E186 162 was transported to France, being the very first Traxx locomotive for this operator visiting its new home country.
Another thing is that 185-CL 008, also known as RBH 221, will be given back to ATC, the leasing company, on 15.04.2008. The machine already lost its RAG/RBH logos and numbers. - DSO/SS/TEV/KAR

[EU] E186 news
ON February 5th, CB Rail E186 150 was delivered to ITL in the Netherlands. In the second week the machine got ITL numbers and logos, including some bright green art work. AT first it was released from the Shunter work shop in Rotterdam with ITL-id 210, soon to be changed into 150. In Poland now 6 E186s are running for passenger services, remarkable as they are leased by PKP Cargo. E186 126, 127, 128, 131, 132 and 134 have lost all their original service numbers, and we now have to refer to them as EU43 001-006. PKP Cargo will lease all six for a period of 3 years. Drawings of all six machines can be found in their profiles on this website. - RIRF

[NL] first ITL E186 arrives
The very first E186 series locomotive from Bombardier arrived in the Netherlands. It is the light grey painted E186 150, property of CB Rail leasing, to be rented out to ITL Deutschland GmbH. It will get ITL service number 210 soon, an some nice green colored adhesives. 3 more E186s will follow in the upcoming time, designated ITL 211-213. - RR

It took CBRail quite some effort to decide, or better not to decide, with which colours they wanted their E186 series to be delivered with. In February 2006 the press statement of the first included the publication of a machine painted in purple, silver and dark red. However, at the Innotrans international railway fair 2006, in Berlin, wooden models and canvas prints were presented at the Bombardier stands, showing future CBRail locomotives in orange and blue.
the ever changing artist impressions...
In August and September 2007, the very first locomotives came from the production line, painted in... a light grey basic tone, looking a bit unfinished. CBRail did not agree on a colour scheme on time, so Bombardier had to decide for it self, resulting in a neutral colour. It provides indeed a neutral basis for customers of CBRail, when they want to apply their logos in these machines!
