On 05.09.2007, Bombardier was awarded by BLS Cargo with an order for ten Traxx F140 multisystem locomotives. An option for another 10 locomotives was included. The machines are built for nonstop, langhaul services over the Alps, as they will be certified for Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Italy. Next to the standard train detection systems for these countries, the units are also equipped with ERTMS (Europe) and SCMT (Italy).
 On 05.09.2008, the first BLS Traxx left the Kassel assembly plant. It was transported to Bombardier's test site in Hennigsdorf, near Berlin. The machine, designated Re 486 501, was decorated with the latest BLS promotional vynils, similar to those applied on BLS Cargo's Re 485 003. The slogan is different on both sides, as one is in German, the other in Italian.

It is rumbling on the Gotthard line. After years of cooperation with BLS Cargo, DB Schenker has closed a deal with SBB Cargo in stead for the Gotthard transit services, starting in December 2013. Curious detail is that DB Schenker itself owns 45% of BLS Cargo, the company that now looses an important part of its transport volume.

 Last week, Nordcargo started to exploit BLS Cargo Re486 locomotives in Italy. They are used for the Hupac service between Luino and Gallarate/Novara and the "Ambrogiozug" from DomoII to Gallarate. - MS

BLS Cargo 486 503-6 was transported to Italy to 17.08.2009, where arrived at the Nordcargo depot in Novate Milanese. There it will be used for driver instruction. The BLS Re 486 series will be immatricated by Nordcargo for services in Italy. (- MF) DB Schenker is behind this cooperation of course, as both BLS and Nordcargo are partially owned by the German operator.

On 21.02.2009, new Traxx unit E 486 504 for BLS Cargo was spotted on its way to the Gotthard pass, carrying new front numbers: E 186 504. Appearantly, the Italians demanded a renumbering of the machine in order to get immatriculated in Italy? It would be logical, as the E 486 is just another name for a E 186, technically both types are the same, except for their customer-specific packages. - reissweb.net
