order details |
Leasing company CBRail was the second customer for Bombardier ordering diesel-electric Traxx locomotives back in 2006. The first unit, designated 285 001, was completed in July 2007 and transported immeditaley to the Czech Republic, for trials at the test center of Velim. A the end of of 2007 it also completed adhesive tests at the Rubelandbahn in Germany. In January 2008, it was offcically handed over to CBRail. With the delivery of the second one, 285 102, a second sub serie was created; Unlike the 285.0 series, the 285.1 are not equipped with 'Zugsammelschiene' which is required for hauling passenger trains, as it is used to provide power for heating and lighting for example. However, if desired, the ZS-equipment can be added quickly, but CBRail consideres it not neccessary by delivery, as presumably, most machines will be used for freight services only.
On the Innotrans 2008 international railway fair, CBRail 285 110 represented the Traxx family, together with ATC 186 209. On that moment only five out of ten machines were actually on hire to a rail operator.

[EU] say hello to Macquarie European Rail

Slowly, the name CBRail will disappear from this website. Lloyds Banking Group (owner of Lloyds TSB Rail Capital and its subsidiary CBRail) decided to sell the whole Europe oriented leasing activities for rolling stock to Australian based Macquarie Group. This company was already active on the market for leasing rolling stock, with its Macquarie Rail division.
This firm will continue CBRail's activities under a new brand: Macquarie European Rail.

[DE] CBRail 285 111 is repaired again
On 28.11.2010, CBRail 285 111 got involved in a severe accident. It collided with a work train hauled by BBL Logistik GmbH "BBL 03" (ex. DB 212 074-9) between Neustrelitz and Kratzeburg. It then was sent to Kassel where the damage was investigated. The services department decided the locomotive did not suffer a 'Totalschaden' and therefore could be repaired. Today, the 111 was sent out again for its 'second maiden run'. - KAR/Nonstopnews/DSO

[NL/DE] Traxx 285 107 and Dutch trainsets
Since the last week of September, Lloyd's Register Rail Europe and Dutch ministry of Transport are performing electro-magnetic compatibility trials at the Wegberg-Wildenrath test center. This is done to solve possible interference problems where the high-speed (25kV AC system) and normal rail networks (1,5 DC) come together in the Netherlands. For us, this results in interesting combinations of rolling stock, hauled by Traxx unit 285 107 from Bombardier. - LP/Rail Magazine

CBRail 285: test locomotive for the French |
|
Bombardier selected CBRail locomotive 285 110 to become test locomotive for a more powerful version of the Traxx DE concept, to be built for the French national railways, SNCF Fret. This operator ordered 45 diesel-Traxx units in December 2008, to be fitted with a 2400 kW diesel engine. The 110, rebuilt as such, was first seen outside the Bombardier factory in May 2009, with service number 476 103. It still had its CBRail livery.
Later on, the locomotive was renumbered 076 101 and for example was send to the Netherlands for homologation purposes.
To compensate CBRail for the locomotive used for Fret-SNCF, Bombardier delivered a new locomotive in april 2010: unit 285 111. |
