CBRail 185.2
in short
1st order

CBRail was established in 2004 as a rolling stock leasing company and is property of Babcock & Brown from Australia. In After having ordered Traxx MS and DE locomotives in 2006, its fleet portfolio was extended in 2006 with AC2 locomotives, to be delivered on very short notice. In June 2007 already the first light grey painted 185.2 locomotive could be present at the international Transport Logistic fair in Munchen. Although the AC2 type can not run on the Netherlands, nor in Italy, as they can not run on direct current line systems, they have white (mandatory for Netherlands) and red (mandatory for Italy) painted fronts.

In March 2007 CBRail also financed seven electrics for the HGK. These machines are painted in the corporate colours of the customer; red with blue and white logos.

With the homologation of the TRAXX AC2 in Hungary, the service domain of these locomotives was extended towards the east in 2008. CBRail anticipated on this and ordered five DE/AT/HU configurated units in 2007. Delivery of these machines took place in 2009.

[EU] say hello to Macquarie European Rail

Slowly, the name CBRail will disappear from this website. Lloyds Banking Group (owner of Lloyds TSB Rail Capital and its subsidiary CBRail) decided to sell the whole Europe oriented leasing activities for rolling stock to Australian based Macquarie Group. This company was already active on the market for leasing rolling stock, with its Macquarie Rail division.

This firm will continue CBRail's activities under a new brand: Macquarie European Rail. CBRail 185.2 CBRail 285 CBRail DE2000 CBRail E186 series

[DE] Traxx AC2 CBRail > Railpool, an overview
Railpool hires all five locomotives type Traxx AC2 from the latest batch from CBRail. We're talking about the registration no. 185 635-639 here. The 635 and 636 are now operated by ERS Railways, and both have logos of this operator. The 637 has a yellow Railpool-band and runs for PCT. The 638 has no operator-specific markings, just the blue band, and is operated by BoxXpress. New is that the 639 has Rurtalbahn-logos now. - AH CBRail 185.2 Railpool 185.2

[DE] CBRail still has some 185.2s left
One would almost forget, but still there are five Traxx F140 AC2 machines (with DE/AT/HU homologation) for CBRail waiting for a customer; 185 635-639. They were built in 2009 but up till now they spend most of their time standing around in Kassel. Now they are moving. The picture shows 185 638 in Kassel Rangierbahnhof, together with 186 236. In the mean time, 185 639 has been spotted near the factory with Railpool logos. - CK CBRail 185.2

[EU] CBRails (un)wanted
Today two Traxx units completed a test run; Railpool E 186 141-8 and CBRail 185 637. Together they illustrate the unpredictability of the current market for leasing and hiring locomotives. CBRail is one of the key players in this market at this moment, but its fleet strategy is very hard to follow. Bombardier is selling units that were originally built for CBRail to other customers now, like 186 141, 143, 147 and 181. But at the same time, other units are still accepted. 185 637 is the third unit of a batch of five AC2 electrics (635-639) the will delivered to CBRail next year. - TW CBRail 185.2 CBRail E186 series

[DE] 14 electrics for the HGK, the details
Clearly, regular visitors have seen the pictures of brand new Traxx electrics for the Häfen- und Güterverkehr Köln AG, that have been delivered in March in April. Also, in the news one could already read that the HGK finally would plan up to 14 machines, which is now confirmed. The first seven machines are leased from CB Rail, the next seven will be property of Angel Trains Cargo. As far as I know these machines are not part of any CB or ATC orders that have been published so far, but specially built for the HGK.

The HGK will get 14 red painted Traxx 2 F140AC2's. The CB Rail locomotives are numbered 185 582, 584-589. Of the ATC machines, the first two are now waiting for assembly in Kassel, and are numbered 185 603 and 604. All 14 machines will be homologated for Germany, Austria and Switzerland. - H Alpha Trains / RBSAF 185.2 CBRail 185.2
