Beacon Rail 185.2
in short
order details
In September 2007, the Allco Finance Group, based in Australia, decided to invest in new locomotives; 12 Traxx2 F140AC2 electrics were ordered which will be equipped for service in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. However, just weeks before the roll-out of the first machine on 20.05.2008, Allco decided to focus on the Australian and US market for leasing only, and therefore sold its European activities, including its portfolio of 27 locomotives to Boston (USA) based BTMU Capital Corporation. On 14.01.2009, BTMU introduced a new name for its business entity for freight rolling stock leasing in the European market; Beacon Rail Leasing Limited (Beacon Rail).

[DE/CH] Back with Crossrail: Suzy
On 28.01.2010, Beacon Rail unit 185 596, in service of Crossrail, had a head-on collision with BLS 485 002. This happened in Brig, Switserland, and the 596 was accompagnied by Crossrail's Re 436 113. After that, the Beacon Rail machine was sent to Kassel and where it need more than one year to recover from its damage. During the last two weeks the machines was completed and repainted, in the current orange-red Crossrail livery. Like new, the engine was seen last friday in Kassel. It also got a name: Suzy - CK

BTW, this makes us wonder, how are 436 113 and BLS 485 002 doing? Beacon Rail 185.2

[DE] 185 595 in Crossrail livery
Although the current Crossrail website Crossrail website still conforms to the old corporate identity, the company did introduce a new logo and base color back in January 2010. Regarding Crossrail rolling stock, the new CI manifested itself only on CBRail'sPB03. However, the Class66 locomotive got company early this month: Beacon Rail 185 595 got the same light rad color and new Crossrail logos. A bit more white up front would have brought some more unity, and would have made it a bit easier to see the difference between a orange WLE unit, a light red Crossrail machine and the red tone of DB Schenker. [CH] accident at the Simplon line
Last night, two freight trains were involed in a head-on collision in the Simplon line, between Brig an the Simplon tunnel entrance. No one was injured but the damage on rolling stock and infra structure is considerable. The Simplon line is closed for now. - GA

update: units involved are BLS Cargo Re485 002, Crossrail Re436 113 and Beacon Rail/Crossrail 185 596. Striking is the difference in body deformation of the old Re436 compared to the modern Traxx units. Some progress in driver safety has been booked during the last decades... Beacon Rail 185.2

Beacon Rail 185.2: Details
The painting of the 12 electrics, all DACH configured, is still based on the corporate colours of the company that originally ordered the machine, Allco. Railcolor.net was consulted during the design phase of this livery, that had to be a neutral basis for future customers of the leasing company, but at the same time reflect the corporate colours of the owner. Allco also desired a consistent basic livery, resulting in the fact that also these F140AC2 machines have a red and white painted front, colours that are obligatory fore running in the Italy and the Netherlands respectivily.

On 04.07.2008 the first 4 locomotives (185 590-593) were officially delivered to BTMC and transported to their new employee: Crossrail from Switzerland. This open access operator operates all twelve BTMU machines from delivery, all carrying black and red Crossrail logos and striping.

On 01.10.2008, 185 594-595 were handed over, on 23.12.2009 the 185 596, 597, 599, and 600 followed. Finally the batch was completed on 20.02.2009, with the handing over of 185 601 and 602.

185 596 was damaged during an accident in Brig [CH], together with Re 436 113, the unit collided head-on with BLS Cargo Re 485 002. On 02.10.2010 the 596 was spotted in Kassel in the service and overhaul section of the factory, where it still was under repair.

185 595 was the first Beacon Rail 185 595 to loose its original livery. It got the new red corporate identity of Crossrial in September 2010.
