[DE] new hybrid DB livery for 145 043
There is another new version of the DB traffic red livery. Many 145s, 152s, 185s and 189s are currently being overhauled, and without exception they come out of the workshops with the normal DB logos (again). But 145 043 returned from Dessau on 16.01.2013, with its front service numbers still on a nice white square.

[DE] History: 145 013 (no.1) a one day fly

[DE] History: 145 013 (no.1) a one day fly
This week we stumbled upon two images of a damaged 145 series locomotive, in the frontyard of what was then the Adtranz assembly factory in Kassel. Both images show locomotive 145 013-9. The first one is made in April 1999, picturing the locomotive damaged but complete. The second one is made four months later. The machine is now stripped down; all demontable, re-usable parts have been removed.
This locomotive was in active duty at DB AG for only 12 (!) days. A real one day fly. What happened?
On 03.03.1999, the brand new machine, suffered a head-on collusion with shunting locomotive 294 226 in Hannover-Linden. The driver of the 294 missed a signal and by accident drove its train onto the main tracks. With a speed difference of 35 kph, both units collided. No serious injuries. The diesel locomotive could be repaired quite easily, but the damage on the 145 013 was much severe, only this was hard to see on the outside. Both frame and body got a hit and in such a case it is often game over for a locomotive. Same for this one. Building a new body, and re-using the parts of the 013 proved to be more economical than a repair. So this happened.
On 17.03.2000, Adtranz delivered a new 145 013-9 to the DB. New works number, a different livery. The remains of the original one were scrapped in 1999 by Fa. Trillhof from Kassel. - WB/Karl Gerhard Baur: 'Die Baureihen 145, 146 und 185'

[DE] history: 145 018 and 019 piloting for the new 146 series

[DE] history: 145 018 and 019 piloting for the new 146 series
DB Schenker 145 series is a freight locomotive, but it is a freight locomotive because the operator wants it to be. It is a result of splitting up the former German railways in different divisions. And it would be best as one serie is property of one division. So the 145 series ended up at DB Cargo.
However, the original demands were different. When the development of this concept started, it had to become a platform for light and medium-heavy mixed services. Hence the 14x-service number. Until this day, the freight-145 is still used for passenger services on a regular basis. At this moment they help out in Nordrhein-Westfalen.
The history of 145 series locomotives in passenger services started on 19.06.1999. That day, 145 018-8 and 145 019-6 were officially presented at the work shops in Ludwigshafen. They both got a provisorial 'Nahverkerhs-Package' so they could be used with double deck rakes. On both sides they carried the 'Umweltfeundlich - Energiesparend - Leistungsstark' markings. The 018 and 019 were then used to gather expertise with this type of machines in everyday practice. At the day they were presented, DB Regio also signed a letter of intent for the delivery of two prototypes of the final regio-version of the 145 with a top speed of 160 kph, now better known as the 146 series.
145 018 and 019 were used for regional services between Koblenz and Mannheim. This ended in 2000, when they both were re-allocated from Rheinland-Pfalz to Hannover, where they were needed for the EXPO2000-services. Because of this, also the special inscriptions were removed. - Baur, Die Baureihen 145/146 und 185, EK-verlag / MF / MW / EL

[DE] the DB about its new corporate identity

[DE] the DB about its new corporate identity
In the current issue of Railways (01.2008), a magazine published online by the DB/Railion, an article can be found in which the DB makes clear how its new names, logos and identity will be applied on its rolling stock. For locomotives, not much will change; what was expected becomes reality, all machines will get only a DB logo, because this subscribes the neutral character of DB Schenker and DB Intermodal (Both DB subsidiaries for freight operation) in respect to its customers that operate in the (inter)national logistics market too. - Railways / Railion.com
