How can I upload pictures to Railcolor.net? |
As you can see, Railcolor.net has fresh pictures everyday. Most of these images come from our fans, our visitors, and may come from you! This page explains how you can contribute to this site by uploading your own images at Railcolor.net. |

PICTURE REQUIREMENTS
quality: quality: all images contributed will be checked by our team to determine if they meet the minimum quality standards regarding clarity, brightness, color, sharpness, noise etc. Locomotives should also be shown completely. Photos in which buffers or pantographs are cut off will not be accepted. Nevertheless, this site is about being complete and up-to-date, therefore for breaking news items our quality standards take second place, this includes images of very rare liveries or special occasions.
size and format: Our system only accepts .jpg images. Minimum width is 750 pixels, minimum height is 500 pixels. If it is possible for you, it would be very nice if your images already have the exact 750x500 resolution, that makes it easy for us to add the image to the system.
motive: We can only add picturs to our website of which the motive fits onto the 3:2 landscape image ratio. Also, an image of a locomotive front of for example 800 pixels wide and 1200 pixels high, can not be added.
uniqueness: Before you upload a picture, first check the gallery of that unit to see what's already there. Ask yourself if your picture really adds something new to the website.

UPLOADING IN FIVE STEPS
step 1: select
select the pictures you want to upload and identify the locomotive which is predominantly present in the image.
step 2: navigate
Find the profile of that locomotive. You can use the search function in the upper left corner of the website to look for a certain service-number, or you can navigate through the site and select a profile by clicking in the service numbers or works number of a unit in the various stock lists.
step 3: 'upload your image'
In the upper right corner of every profile, you will find the 'upload your image' text link. Click it. When this link is not present, it means that we have plenty images of this unit, so contributions are not needed.
step 4: fill in
Now you are at the upload dialog page of your locomotive. Fill in all fields. Make sure your name and email addresses are spelled correctly and in the same way every time. And don't forget date and place. Dates need to be filled in as follows: dd. mm. yyyy
step 5: submit
Click 'submit' and your image is added to upload queue.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
When you have uploaded your image, it will be stored in a waiting queue. All pictures are checked by our team members and adjusted manually to fit the Railcolor.net image size and quality standards. Then the image will be stored again and it will be placed in the update gallery. At this moment the Railcolor.net database selects images randomly to compose a picture update for the site every day. This is done to have some variation in the updates. Older images are published first.
The my gallery section of the website gives an overview of all photographers that have contributed images to this website. Here you will get your own gallery as soon as your first image is published. You can see which of your images have been accepted.
At this moment we can not say exactly when your contributed images will be published. It depends on the amount of time our team has to check and adjust the images and how many images that are uploaded. If you have questions about the status of your contribution, feel free to contact as at railcolor@gmail.com
