close-up: 7100 series for National Pacific, Australia
On 16.02.2009, the roll-out took place of the 7100 series electric for Pacific National. Late 2007, this large rail operator from down-under ordered 23 single-cab Class 7100 electric freight locomotives by Siemens. They are all built in the Siemens factories in Munich and shipped form Germany to Australia.
Weighing 132 metric tons, the Class 7100 electric freight locomotive is a six-axle vehicle with a power rating of 4,000 kW and a maximum speed of 80 km/h. It will be operating on the narrow Australian track gauge of 1,067 millimeters. Pacific National uses the powerful locomotive for coal transport in Queensland.
Two extra batches (+9+10) were ordered later on, making a total of 42 units in service of Pacific National.
