 Lotos Kolej is an operator from Poland predominantly active in the domestic market for freight transport. On 12.10.2009, the company closed a deal with Bombardier for the delivery of six Traxx DE diesel units with 2400 kW power rating. The contract value was 18.6 Million Euro and the deal included an option for an additional four locomotives. All engines were to be built in Kassel and delivery would start around the summer of 2011. - IRJ
This order was changed in May 2010, when Lotos made public that the option for the four additional units would be exercised. The delivery of the ten units was also speeded, all had to be in service before June 2011.
Early 2009, Lotos Kolej performed some trials with a modern Traxx engine. ATC 186 133, on hire to OHE, visited Poland to show its qualities to interested operators.
The first Lotos diesel-Traxx was presented at the Innotrans railway fair in September 2010.

Only last week we saw Lotos locomotive-to-be 285 121 leaving Kassel again for Poland. Now the serie delivery of the first batch of six has started. The images show you unit no.2 during its maiden run yesterday. Also 285 123 is already seen around Kassel.
This article on rynek-kolejowy.pl gives some background information about the plans with the new 285 series diesel locomotives, the first new ones to arrive in Poland in more than twenty years. On 10.04.2011, the 285 121 arrived in Gdansk (PL) where it will be used for driver training. Lotos Kolej hopes to start first revenue services with the 285s in May 2011.
In total, Lotos Kolej has ten Traxx DE locomotives on order. The second batch of four will come later. Lotos Kolej also invests in modern units by hiring fourteen Traxx MS locomotives from Railpool and ES 64 F4-454 and -455 from MRCE Dispolok at this moment.

On 12.10.2009, Polish freight operator Lotos Kolej ordered six new Traxx DE locomotives. As Lotos expects its business to expand rapidly, they'll invest in new locomotives once again. Now they have decided to lease four extra Traxx DE units (From whom these units will be leased is not mentioned).
