Last week, locomotive manufacturer and repair company ZNLE Gliwice was officially renamed as Newag Gliwice S.A., after its mother company. Newag already owned 80 percent of the shares of ZNLE.
For this site, we will now refer to the former ZNLE products as Newag Dragon and Newag Griffin. Talking about the Griffin, the engine is still subjected to comprehensive static testing. Transformers, brakes, drive, auxiliary converters, air handling system are being evaluated. Same for less vital components as air-conditioning and lighting systems. A good indication of the potential of the Dragon electric locomotive, according to ZNLE, is framework agreement they've signed with ABB. Its states that the Swiss company may produce traction convertors for up to twenty new six axle locomotives. During the presentation of the Griffin, ZNLE aanounced the official contract signing with LOTOS Kolej. The Polish operator will buy five new Dragon locomotives. It is the second customer of ZNLE for the Dragon, that was intentionally developed for the domestic market. Operator STK previously ordered four units, as announced in October 2011.

As already mentioned, Polish freight operator STK from Wroclaw, will be launching customer for the Dragon locomotive, developed by ZNLE Gliwiche. STK has signed a contract for four locomotives. The deal was financed by ING Lease. - RK

From 13.01.2011 until 12.07.2011, operator Spółka Specjalistyczny Transport Kolejowy (STK) from Wroclaw, used the six-axle Dragon prototype E6ACT-001 for its freight services. Now rynek-kolejowy.pl publishes the news that STK has decided to purchase several Dragon's. The exact details will presented during the upcoming Trako 2011 fair in Gdańsk, to be held from 11 to 14.10.2011. Let's wait and see.

The ZNLE E6ACT prototype has began its long awaited test period at LOTOS Kolej. Its appearance did not change much, it is still black and orange, now decorated with white LOTOS logos. The image shows the 001 with a freight train from Gdańsk Olszynka to Zduńska Wola Karsznice. - PW

Yes, its the Dragon from the last Innotrans, and yes its livery is modified. It got a more dynamic look in the corporate colours of operator STK from Poland. This company will evaluate the performances of the E6ACT in regular services in the next six months. After that, operator Lotos will have its turn. STK from Wroclaw was founded in 2005. rynek-kolejowy.pl reports on the E6ACT-001 of ZNLE now being approved for regular freight service by the Polish safety authority UTK, per 30.12.2010. Now first regular runs will be held in cooperation with freight operator Lotos.

In 2008, ZNLE Gliwice announced the production of new 6-axle freight locomotive with 5000kW duration power, the E6ACT. Now a first engine seems to be ready to be presented at Trako 2009, a railway fair in Poland. Back in November 2008, Zelpage.cz already released a design sketch of the E6ACT which resemble to colours of the unit on the picture.

A new platform for modern electrics is being developed in Poland. ZNLE Joint Stock Company in Gliwice is working on the first E6ACT prototype locomotive, a modern electric with a Co'Co' axle configuration and 5,0 MW duration power. With a top speed of 120 kph it is designed for heavy freight trains with weight up to 3200 tons, typical for transportation of aggregate, coal, sand and steel.
