In June 2013, DB Regio Oberbayern ordered six Skoda 109E series locomotives together with six Skoda double deck train sets. DB Regio will use them for the public transport concession 'Ringzug West/NBS', awarded by the Bayerische Eisenbahngesellschaft (BEG). This concerns the München – Ingolstadt - (NBS) – Nürnberg, Augsburg – Treuchtlingen – Nürnberg and the Treuchtlingen – Ingolstadt – München branches. The Skoda rolling stock will be used for services running ove the NBS line ('Neubaustrecke') München – Ingolstadt – Nürnberg.
Škoda Transportation will deliver six six-vehicle two-floor train sets - each of which will comprise of 1 driving trailer, 5 intermediate coaches and a locomotive 109E. These vehicles will be manufactured for the designed speed of 200 km/hour. The units will also have a pressure-tight bodyshell, which stabilizes the pressure inside the car when passing rail vehicles on high-speed lines, especially in tunnels and thus significantly increases the comfort of the passengers.'
