By the end of 2014, Bombardier will be starting the production of the Traxx AC3 for DB Regio. In 2013, a first batch of 20 units was ordered by the German Railways (DB) for its passenger operator DB Regio. It was the first order based on a new framework agreement of up to 450 units.
The very first locomotive, the designated 147 001, was released from Bombardier's factory in Kassel on 13.12.2014. Together with DB Schenker's future 187 102 it made a 4-day trip to Krefeld. A two-year period followed full with tests and trials. In January 2017 DB Regio started its first revenue services with 147 001-020, all allocated in Stuttgart by then.
